BCANDS is an internationally recognized and award-winning, not-for-profit, Indigenous disability organization in operation since 1991. BCANDS provides a variety of disability-related programs and services across Canada and holds Special Consultative Status with the United Nations.

Since COVID-19 was declared a public health emergency on March 17, 2020, the pandemic has brought uncertainties to our lives and communities. In collaboration with the Government of Canada, First Nations Health Authorities and community leaders have worked to limit the spread of the virus and to keep our communities safe and healthy in British Columbia.

As we have learned through history, this pandemic can disproportionately affect First Nation communities and Indigenous peoples and families living with disabilities. Persons with disabilities are at higher risk and face multiple barriers to accessing COVID-19 public communications – which increases isolation particularly when other socio-economic factors are involved, such as remote First Nations communities. When many of these factors intersect –Indigenous peoples and disabilities – the impact of COVID-19 is amplified.

In this webinar, BCANDS is pleased to host representatives from the federal government, B.C. government and the office of the provincial health officer to discuss the impact of COVID-19 and available supports for Indigenous persons and families living with a disability in the province.

The Webinar will cover the following topics:
 B.C. COVID-19 supports for Indigenous individuals and families living with a disability. (MSDPR)
 Available supports for First Nations communities and Indigenous persons with disabilities in B.C. (ISC)
 Updates on the current situation for First Nations communities and Indigenous people in B.C. (OPHO)
