Volunteer Board of Directors
The Board of Directors is a volunteer Policy Governance Board and currently has 9 members with a capacity for 15. The Board, which meets 5 times per year, has three committees:
Compensation, Governance/Nominating and Audit. SSM is seeking 1-3 new directors for its board beginning with the Annual General Meeting on March 30, 2022.
We are seeking candidates who have one or more of the following attributes:
• Knowledge of Policy Governance© and the board role (Carver Model);
• Financial knowledge – for example accounting designation;
• Legal background;
• Orientation toward the “big” picture and strategic thinking;
• Orientation toward group discussion and decision making;
• Conceptual thinking;
• Curiosity and a bias to learn;
• Orientation to resolve conflict;
• Effective communication and listening skills; and
• Knowledge of their respective industries and how safety plays (or can play) a role.
Safety Services Manitoba (SSM) is a not for profit, non-governmental organization that provides training and consulting services on a fee for service basis in road and occupational health and safety to a variety of clients. SSM is a major provider of training services to Manitoba Public Insurance. In addition, the organization provides occupational training and consulting services to clients in a variety of industries including manufacturing, distribution, and government. SSM has been involved in the community through programs such as Operation Red Nose. SSM’s operations are managed by a President & CEO and a professional staff. Recent and coming changes in the landscape of workplace injury and illness prevention in Manitoba has presented opportunities for long term strategic discussions.
