POUNDMAKERS 2019 ANNUAL POW WOW
On August 3rd & 4th, 2019, Poundmaker’s Lodge Treatment Centres will be celebrating our annual Traditional Pow Wow. We would like to take the opportunity to invite you to join us.
The annual Pow Wow is our signature community engagement event which brings together 10,000 spectators each year. This gives us an opportunity to bring awareness to the efforts that Poundmaker’s Lodge Treatment Centres provides to the Indigenous and Non-Indigenous communities.
Poundmaker’s Lodge Treatment Centres is an Indigenous addictions treatment centre near St. Albert, AB that was established in 1973. Poundmaker’s Lodge has been a leader in the provincial, national, and global addiction and mental health treatment community. Through concepts based in the cultural and spiritual beliefs of traditional First Nations, Métis and Inuit peoples, Poundmaker’s Lodge offers an Indigenous wholistic treatment experience that focuses on the root causes; and empowers people in their recovery from addiction.
The theme for our Pow Wow this year is Honouring Indigenous Language & Culture. Language and culture play a crucial role in the daily lives of people, not only as a tool for communication, education, social integration and development, but also as a repository for each person’s unique identity, cultural history, traditions, and memory. Our annual Pow Wow is a time to embrace and celebrate the achievements of Indigenous Peoples and experience cultural spirituality. We will have traditional dancers, singers, traditional foods, and artisans. In addiction to our two day Pow Wow we will have Elders from the community sharing Traditional Stories on Friday August 2nd from 2:00pm-4:00pm.
