MHS Field Trip: Fisher River First Nation and Peguis Treaty Days
Departing from Grant Park Shopping Centre (the bus will load between Applebee’s and Pony Corral) at 8.00 AM on Wednesday, 17 July, this trip will travel through Manitoba’s Interlake region to first visit Fisher River Cree First Nation. There will be a refreshment break at Teulon. At Fisher River, we will have an opportunity to learn about the history of its people and view its solar power project, which is the largest in Manitoba. We will then drive south to Peguis First Nation to visit the pow-wow that is a part of their three-day Treaty Days celebration. Dancers from across Canada will be competing in a truly amazing and colourful display of artistry and ability. Numerous vendors will be on site displaying a variety of crafts and souvenirs. Lunch will be on your own but there will be numerous food trucks and vendors selling a variety of items and drinks (including traditional foods) or, if you wish, feel free to pack a light lunch to bring with you. Those who wish may choose to visit the Reserve’s casino. After spending time in Peguis, the tour will return to Winnipeg, stopping at St. Cyprian’s Church in Teulon for a delicious “fall supper.” The tour will return to Grant Park no later than 8.00 PM.
The fee for the tour is $85.00 for MHS members, $95.00 for non-members. It includes all fees, taxes and gratuities, a morning refreshment break, dinner, and transportation by an All Road Tours luxury air-conditioned and washroom-equipped motor coach.
