Bill Reid Gallery: Language Matters
The Bill Reid Gallery of Northwest Coast Art presents Language Matters, an exhibition that brings awareness to the importance of Indigenous language revitalization. Guest curated by Jordana Luggi (Dakelh and Wet’suwet’en) in recognition of the United Nations’ International Year of Indigenous Languages, this group exhibition features new graffiti and collage works created by urban Indigenous youth and community members. These works were created in workshops led by Tsleil-Waututh artist and language activist Ocean Hyland and Heiltsuk artist KC Hall. Language Matters highlights language as a way for Indigenous youth to reconnect with their culture and support healing from a long history of cultural erasure. On view June 19 through September 16, 2019.
