Annual Sober Walk
The Poundmakers Lodge Treatment Centres Elders, Board and staff are pleased to announce upcoming community engagement activities in recognition of National Addictions Awareness Week (NAAW). National Addictions Awareness week has been around since the late 80’s and since its inception, Poundmaker’s Lodge Treatment Centres has taken the initiative to continue raising awareness and educating the public on efforts to reduce the impact of addictions on our community at large. Our engagement activities will focus on celebrating continued recovery and healing with significance placed on the role of Indigenous culture.
Poundmaker’s Lodge Treatment Centres prides itself on its 46 year history of providing exceptional addiction treatment services to Indigenous populations. Our organization has strived to be a leader in bringing issues of importance to the forefront in both mainstream and Indigenous communities. We believe ongoing engagement through cultural ceremony significantly improves health outcomes amongst our Indigenous peoples and strengthens Alberta’s health care system.
We are recognizing the week with events such as the Sober Walk on Thursday November 28th, and our Round Dance on Saturday November 30th, 2019. We invite the community to show their support and acknowledgement of this important week.
The Sober Walk will start at Canada Place (the south entrance on Jasper Ave ) at 1:00pm and will conclude at the Alberta Legislature Grounds at 2pm. Guest Speakers will be addressing the crowd on the stairs of the Legislature Building at 2pm. Please dress for the weather and bring any signs, posters, or banners that you wish to display on the walk.
