171 McDermot Ave. Winnipeg, Manitoba R3B 0S1
Forth (171 McDermot Ave) to host Forthwith – a music and arts festival from Feb 1-3, 2018.
Forth, Videopool and other locations will be transformed into an experimental music, art, technology and performance festival with over 20 visiting international artists and musicians.
Exchange District, Winnipeg – Winnipeg’s Downtown scene is getting an infusion of international artists for the third annual Forthwith Festival. The first day of the event will be kicking off Feb 1 alongside First Friday’s in the Exchange and will be the destination of choice for experimental audiovisual art and electronic music lovers all weekend long.
Artists will be travelling in from around the World and Canada, (as well as a host of Winnipeg locals) to perform over the 3 day event. With live performances, workshops, visual installations, teachings, and interactive happenings, Forthwith wanders through industrialized landscapes transformed with digital re-mapping and amongst post-digital artifacts and retro media.
Forthwith daytime programming centres on sound and visual art performances and installations mediated through technology and/or materials. Daytime workshops and artist talks bring the audience and artists together to encourage learning and discussion. Daytime programming varies from the sounds of Montreal based turntable pioneer Martin Tétrault to Dutch guitar composer Bram Stadhouders and visual installations from Toronto artist Layne Hinton and Winnipeg’s Scott Fitzpatrick. Evening programming transitions into a showcase of electronic music and dance with Friday night featuring Greenlandic electronic producer UYARAKQ and hypnotic acid house from Montreal based softcoresoft. Saturday evening brings together electronic acts through the dark minimal techno of Berlin-based Canadian-raised HUREN and Norwegian industrial techno duo CVK in a warehouse setting. Sunday daytime features a relaxed programming with brunch and electronics in Forth’s main floor.
“In the previous two editions, we have been able to introduce many international artists to the Winnipeg arts scene, with as a result new artworks, music albums and friendships, which is the reason why we organize Forthwith. There is so much creativity boiling under the surface, we need to release it!” said Wouter Jaspers – Artistic Director of Forthwith Festival “This year’s festival we focus on learning and engagement between artists and audience with amazing concerts, workshops, food. The fact that outside the weather is at its coldest, makes the space we create indoors a warm and friendly place to focus on what’s happening around us, a place we can create, meet and celebrate.”
The third edition of Forthwith draws strongly from the northern regions with Greenlandic Inuit electronic music producer and DJ UYARAKQ, Inuit vocalist/performer Miké Thomsen, Norwegian techno duo CVK and the Whitehorse based hiphop duo Local Boy.
